Location: 1 km from les Baux, 3 kms from Maussane, 12 kms south of St-Rémy, 35 kms south of Avignon.

The village of les Baux is one of the most celebrated sights in Provence. Perched high on a rock promontory with stunning views over a fertile valley, the ancient village – with the ruins of its medieval castle, village houses and stone streets – is surrounded by massive rock formations and troglodyte dwellings. It’s a must-see for visitors to Provence. Nearby are all the diverse charms of the Alpilles region. Spend the day visiting St-Rémy de Provence, a quintessential Provençal town with a historic town center and full range of shops, restaurants, cafés and a lively open-air market. In Maussane, a picturesque village with shady main square, bakers, small grocers, cafés, restaurants and Thursday market, you’ll find most everything you need.
And if you’re looking for a property with panoramic views and exceptional landscapes, look no further than Mas des Baux. Surrounded by the massive rock formations of les Baux, this old stone mas boasts an unparalleled setting with spectacular mountain and valley views, among the most unique in our portfolio. The grounds feature landscaped beds with flowering plants and shrubs and an array of trees including Mediterranean pine, cypress, mulberry and olive. Along the front of the house is an enormous stone terrace including an arbored dining area with teak dining table and chairs. Steps down from the terrace lead to the beautiful casacading swimming pool and its stone terrace. From the terraces and the pool, you’ll take full advantage of the breathtaking views.
Inside, the old stone house has been completely restored respecting its historic features, including ancient rock walls, heavy wood-beamed ceilings and terra cotta tile floors. The décor combines casual, contemporary furnishings, select antique pieces, colorful carpets and many original works of art. For your convenience, the house is equipped with top-notch appliances and amenities, including Wi Fi internet access.
Arched French doors from the terraces lead to the spacious French country kitchen with dining area and fireplace. It is light and open with massive wood-beamed ceilings, large windows and creamed-colored walls. Well equipped for the best of cooks, the kitchen offers ample preparation space, a professional stove and an antique wood-topped cabinet that serves as the center island. To the side of the kitchen is a large pantry area with another sink, additional storage and separate freezer. On the opposite side of the room by the windows is the dining area with oval wood dining table and chairs.
Several stairs from the kitchen lead to a den with sectional sofa, leather easy chairs and antique tables. This room is literally built into the rock and features a massive stone wall, the most ancient part of the property. On the other side of the main entry hall is the living room with old stone fireplace. Comfortable seating includes an upholstered sofa and armchairs grouped around a wood coffee table, all accented by many original art pieces. Also on this level off the entry hall are toilet facilities.
There are a total of 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, four of which are ensuite. The bedrooms are all decorated with quality linens, antique chests, tables, carpets and art pieces. The bathrooms include fine ceramic fixtures and lovely travertine tilework. Off the living room on the entry level is a bedroom suite with doors to the terrace. The suite has an antique double bed and bathroom with shower, sink and toilet facilities.
On the second floor are 5 bedrooms, including 4 suites with bathrooms, all accessed off a large landing. One of the suites has a king bed with shower. The other three suites have queen beds. Two have bathrooms with showers and the other has a bathroom with tub and shower attachment. The fifth bedroom has a king bed and its own sink. Also on this level is a small office area with sofa and desk.
Stairs from the entry hall lead up to 5 more bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, all accessed from a long corridor. All of the upstairs bedrooms have wood floors. At the far end of the corridor is a spacious king-bedded master suite with high beamed ceiling and large windows overlooking the fabulous country views. Several steps from the bedroom lead down to the large bathroom with travertine-tiled shower, claw foot tub, double sinks and toilet. Another king suite includes a bathroom with tub, sink and toilet. Completing the bedrooms are three with twin beds. One is a larger suite with antique cane headboards and a bathroom with shower, sink and toilet. Two smaller twin-bedded rooms are best for children or teenagers. These two rooms share a large bathroom on the hall with tub, double sinks and toilet.
A property with tremendous Provençal atmosphere in a truly remarkable setting. One of a kind!

Note: the house is built on multiple levels. There can be several stairs between rooms on the same level. As such, the property may not be appropriate for very small children or adults with mobility problems.
