Set in the heart of the Côtes du Rhône wine country, Sablet is a charming walled village, rich in history, gastronomy, leisure and cultural activities and a classified AOC wine producer. A largely undiscovered treasure, it is located at the foot of the scenic Dentelles de Montmirail mountains with easy access to day trips throughout Provence. Our house is set next to the 12th-century church on a narrow street. From here, you’re just steps away from a full range of village shops including bakeries, groceries, cafés and restaurants.
From its architecture and proximity to the church, it is likely that the oldest part of this historic house dates back to medieval times. Inside, it has been fully renovated in fine Provençal tradition. Terra cotta tile floors, colorful ceramic tilework and white walls complement a combination of casual contemporary and antique furnishings. Modern conveniences include satellite television and high-speed internet service.
Entry is into the comfortable living room with leather sofa and easy chairs grouped around a glass-topped coffee table near the wood-burning stove. Behind the sitting area is a small study with another comfortable sofa, bookcase and antique writing desk. Beyond the living room and study is the dining room with window overlooking the courtyard garden. It is light and bright and features a handsome wood table and buffet.
From here a doorway opens to the spacious kitchen with artistic tilework, marble counters, a center island and white wood cabinets. This is a kitchen that the best of cooks will enjoy and includes all appliances and conveniences. Those who prefer to observe the cooks can be seated at the small round breakfast table with rattan chairs. Doors from the kitchen open to the courtyard garden.
There are 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The bedrooms are upstairs in the oldest part of the house tucked away under heavy wood beamed ceilings. For your comfort in warmer months, they are equipped with air conditioning units. Both have king beds, one of which is convertible to twins, making them idea for couples traveling together or a small family. Both are decorated with colorful bedcovers, quilts, bedside tables and lamps.
The bathrooms have been totally remodeled and include fine ceramic fixtures and beautiful travertine marble tilework. A full bathroom including tub with shower, sink and toilet facilities is on the hall upstairs serving both bedrooms. In addition, one bedroom has an ensuite sink and shower. Additional toilet facilities are on the main living level off the entry.
Completing the house is a charming outdoor graveled courtyard garden. It sports a stone fountain, flowering plants, herbs and vines along with outdoor dining and lounging furniture and a gas barbecue. It’s the perfect spot to write postcards, relax with a book or enjoy leisurely al fresco meals.
