The Atlantic coast is renowned for its white-sand beaches stretching for miles. Biarritz, Bayonne and St-Jean de Luz are among the best-known destinations for enjoying the surf and sun. Originally tiny fishing villages, they became celebrated resorts in the 19th century when Empress Eugenie, wife of Napoleon III, made Biarritz her summer home. From here, you can also explore the Pyrenees, the Pays Basque and even cross the border into northern Spain.

Located 30 minutes north of Biarritz, Hossegor is a charming seaside town with lovely beaches, golf courses and a full array of markets, shops, cafés and restaurants. Set near the golf course and the lively town center, this modern villa is built in the local style with white stucco facade, red tile roof, dark half-timbered wood accents and shutters. Fully enclosed, the private grounds include a large swimming pool surrounded by a stone-tiled terrace with palms and landscaped beds. Beyond the pool is a spacious wood deck overlooking the tranquil Bourret River. And adjacent to the house is a covered dining area with bar and built-in barbecue.

Inside, the house is well equipped and very attractively decorated. The living areas are particularly light and bright with white ceramic tile floors, white walls and large glass doors. The decor features a combination of antique pieces along with contemporary furnishings.

Entry is into the spacious living room with stone fireplace and light wood beamed ceiling. A red upholstered sofa with large comfortable cushions and two armchairs are grouped around a glass coffee table by the fireplace. In one corner is another small seating group with rattan chairs and a loveseat. Asian rugs, colorful curtains, antique chests and pottery are warm accents to this casual, inviting room. Two sets of wide French doors open to the both the front and rear terraces and to the pool.

Just off the living room, a glass door opens to the dining room with marble-topped dining table and cushioned chairs. Adjacent is the well-equipped kitchen with stainless steel appliances, sleek cream-colored and stainless cabinets and granite counters. This is a wonderful kitchen for cooks with its five-burner gas cook top and large stainless steel oven. A breakfast nook with round marble-topped table provides space for those encouraging the cooks. From the kitchen beautiful wood-framed sliding glass doors op[en to the back terrace and pool.

There are a total of 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. Two of the bedrooms are suites with full bathrooms, located on the ground level off the living room. One has a king bed and the other a queen. Both have white tile floors, pastel walls and are decorated with colorful bed covers and rugs. Each bathroom has a separate tiled tub and shower, double sinks and toilet facilities.

Stairs from the entry lead to three more bedrooms: one with queen bed overlooking the front garden, another with a double with views on the back terrace and a third dormer room with two small twins appropriate for children. These are all carpeted and decorated with families in mind. Also on this level is a large bathroom with pretty blue and green tile work, American-style tub with shower, double sinks and toilet facilities.

A wonderful home in a delightful seaside town. Well located for exploring the coast, the Pyrenees and the Pays Basque.

Note: children 6 years and older are welcome.
