Located within easy walking distance of the charming village of Goult, the Mas de la Fontaine is a quintessential 18th-century Provençal farmhouse. Set in four-acre grounds with vines and cherry trees, the house is surrounded by a beautiful landscaped garden designed by Nicole de Vesian, a renowned Provençal garden designer. With plane, cypress and olive trees, lavender, roses and an array of flowering plants and shrubs, it is a feast for the eye. In addition, the grounds include a large swimming pool with stone terrace, a graveled courtyard with vine-covered terrace adjacent to the house for leisurely outdoor dining and a west-facing seating area with stone bench, the perfect spot for aperitifs and taking full advantage of wonderful views of the Luberon.
Inside, the house has been lovingly restored and renovated with no expense spared. It features thick stone walls, stone tile floors, wood-beamed and vaulted ceilings complementing stylish furnishings, colorful fabrics, a variety of antique tables and chests and all amenities. Doors from the courtyard lead to a spacious living room with several upholstered sofas and armchairs grouped around a large wood coffee table in front of the fireplace. At the far end is another seating area with two sofas grouped around a coffee table near the television. Occasional tables and lamps accent this appealing room with French doors opening to the courtyard dining terrace on one side and the garden on the other side. Off the entry to the right is the kitchen with vaulted ceiling and doors opening to the courtyard and dining terrace. A dream for all cooks, it features a nine-foot-long central island with granite counters, a professional-level gas stove, a breakfast area with large wood table, an array of pots, pans and utensils and every convenience. Adjacent is the dining room, also with vaulted ceiling, a fireplace and glass-topped table and chairs for 12 people. Also on this level are separate toilet facilities. There are a total of 5 bedrooms, each with ensuite bath or shower. All of the bedrooms are beautifully decorated with antique chests and armoires as well as colorful curtains, bedcovers, rugs and lovely linens. The bathrooms feature quality ceramic tilework and fixtures. On the ground floor down a corridor on the right of the entry hall is a bedroom with twin beds convertible to king with windows on the courtyard. The ensuite bathroom with shower has a view towards the village. A stone staircase with wrought iron railing leads from the entry to three more bedrooms including one with twin beds convertible to king and another with queen bed. The third bedroom is a family suite comprised of a bedroom with queen bed, an adjoining sitting room with trundle beds most appropriate for children and an ensuite bathroom. The fifth bedroom is in an old pigeonnier across the courtyard. On two levels, it has a bathroom with shower on the ground floor and a bedroom with queen bed up a flight of stone stairs. From the bedroom, doors open to the pool terrace. The perfect Provençal farmhouse within walking distance of a lively Luberon village. Note: a caretaker's apartment is located at the entry to the property. It is set apart from the house and courtyard and maintains complete privacy for renters. There may or may not be a caretaker in residence. Contact us to confirm. |
