Arles is a celebrated city, an important Roman capital and major religious center in the Middle Ages. Among its noted sights are the magnificent Roman arena and theater as well as two jewels in Romanesque art, the cloisters and doors of St-Trophime Church. The artist Vincent Van Gogh is also associated with Arles, where he lived at the end of his life.

Our townhouse is historic in its own right, dating from the 12th century. It is in the center of the city within walking distance of all the renowned sights, cafés, restaurants and shops. And you’ll enjoy views of the remarkable Roman arena from every window.

Inside, the house has been beautifully renovated with the highest quality materials, fixtures and fine fabrics. Comprising three stories and a basement, it includes lovely exposed stone walls, high wood beamed ceilings and stone and ceramic tile floors. The stylish decor has been selected with the utmost taste and features modern furnishings accented by a variety of antique chests, armoires, lamps chandeliers and oriental rugs. Air conditioning units in the living area and in the bedrooms ensure comfort in the summer months.

On the entry level is the open-plan living-dining room. It is light and bright with glass doors facing the street. The sitting area features an attractive upholstered sofa and two easy chairs from which there are excellent views of the Roman arena. Adjacent is the dining area with a square wood table. The room is highlighted by antique buffets, a small desk and colorful local artwork. In an alcove off the back is the kitchenette with sink, range top, small refrigerator and microwave oven. A staircase leads down to a well-lit basement with full-size refrigerator, laundry and toilet facilities.

Up a winding staircase are two master bedroom suites, one on the second floor and another on the third floor. Both suites have large windows overlooking the Roman arena and are furnished with antique four-poster beds with new queen mattresses. Antique desks, chests and armoires, tapestry curtains and pretty linens are warm highlights. At one end of each suite is a bath area, open to the bedroom, with claw foot tub and sink. Adjacent are separate and enclosed toilet facilities.

The perfect home for experiencing life in a historic Provençal city.
