The village of Cabrières d'Avignon couldn't be more centrally located in the scenic Luberon. And this stone house with origins in the 18th century served as the bread oven for the village. Today, you walk down the street to the local bakery for your morning bread and pastries. And the village has a small grocery, butcher and a couple of charming restaurants just steps away.
Set in its own walled courtyard, the grounds include a small bassin-style swimming pool with adjacent wood deck with sun loungers and a stone terrace with a glass-topped rattan dining table and chairs. Surrounding the pool and terraces are beautifully landscaped beds with olive and cypress trees and a variety of gorgeous flowering plants and shrubs. Inside, the old stone house has been handsomely renovated with the finest building materials and no expense spared. Stone floors, exposed stone walls and wood beamed ceilings complement cream-colored walls and a stylish combination of contemporary and antique furnishings. And there is every modern convenience including air conditioning, under-floor heating and high speed internet access. It's first class in every way! Entry is into the open-plan living-dining room. This is an inviting and atmospheric room with large picture windows, a graceful stone arch and exposed stone wall housing the old bread oven. To the left is the sitting area with leather sofa and Italia chairs grouped around a wrought-iron coffee table. Opposite in front of the stone wall is the dining area with beautiful wood table and chairs for 8 people. Artisan wool carpets, antique chests and clay vessels are warm accents. To the left a door opens to the fully-equipped kitchen with stainless steel appliances, granite counters and cream-colored cabinets. It's an excellent kitchen for both amateur and experienced chefs. Stairs from the living room lead to 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, one ensuite. All of the bedrooms have queen beds and are decorated with beautiful bedcovers, lovely curtains and occasional antique pieces. The bathrooms feature travertine tilework and the finest ceramics and fixtures. Both bathrooms, in the master suite and on the hall, feature a separate shower, bathtub and double sinks. Toilet facilities are separate--one upstairs and one downstairs. Also upstairs is a den with sofa and satellite television. A home with exceptional style and comfort in a charming Provençal village. Note: adjacent to the property is Domaine de Cabrières (AH18) for 12/14 people, an independent property with its own grounds. When rented in combination with Cabrières Village, the two properties accommodate 18/20 people total (see AH20 for the combined listing). |
| "I honestly cannot put into words what a lovely week we had in Cabrières. I thought to describe the village as 'picture perfect,' 'right out of a movie set,' or perhaps an 'Impressionist painting.' All these descriptions fall short.
"The house was amazing. The location was perfect for day trips (most within 15-30 minutes) to a number of picturesque villages. A different restaurant each evening and a wonderful bakery just a two minute walk from the house. We are already planning our next vacation here. It was truly très magnifique." |
