L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is renowned as one of the antique centers of France, second only to Paris. It offers an array of shops, galleries, cafés, restaurants and an extraordinary Sunday open-air market, celebrated throughout the region. And if you're looking for a house where you can settle into life in this quintessential Provençal town, your search is over.
Located in the center of l'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, this town house can't be beat. Centuries old, it occupies a tranquil location beside the Sorgue River next to a small park. From here, you can wander through narrow winding streets across pedestrian bridges and past moss-covered water wheels. And you're just steps away from the center of town with all services, shops, cafés and restaurants. The three-story house has undergone complete renovation and combines traditional wood and plaster ceilings with quality appliances and ceramics as well as all conveniences including high-speed internet access. Wood antique pieces accent terra cotta tile floors, white-washed walls and casual, contemporary furniture. Entry is into a comfortable den and a sitting area with sofa and armchairs as well as a desk and library with bulging bookcases. A staircase leads to the second floor with a spacious open-plan room where there are living and dining areas along with a full kitchen. The room feels open and airy thanks to white walls and large windows, one of which opens to a balcony where an old rose bush climbs the railing. In the living area are upholstered sofas and armchairs grouped around a glass-topped wrought iron coffee table. Adjacent is the dining area with round wood table and chairs for 4 people. Behind is the well-designed and fully-equipped kitchen with white and gray-trimmed cabinets, rust-colored stone tile counters and all appliances. There are 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Both bedrooms are decorated with lovely bedcovers, curtains, wood side tables, chests and provide ample wardrobe space. The bathrooms are on the hall near the bedrooms and include showers, sinks, toilet facilities and heated towel bars. One of the bedrooms with a queen bed and its bathroom are located on the ground floor behind the den. The second bedroom with twin beds (convertible to queen) and its bathroom are on the top (third floor). Completing the town house is a roof-top terrace accessed from a landing on the third floor. It sports an arbored dining area with teak table, chairs and barbecue. With no neighbors adjoining the side and back of the house, all-day light and sunshine pour in from three sides. It's the perfect spot to write postcards, relax with a book or enjoy leisurely al fresco meals. An ideal home for experiencing life in a Provençal town and exploring all the best of the region. Note: available for 2009 rentals. |
