Immortalized in Peter Mayle's renowned book, A Year in Provence, the village of Ménerbes is perched above the Luberon Valley with views over vineyards and rolling countryside. In the village today, you'll stroll narrow cobblestone streets with historic houses, small shops, the celebrated Café du Progrès and several restaurants.
Among the historic buildings is this spacious stone house, once the village post office. It boasts a traditional stone façade, bright red shutters and red tile roof. Both inside and out, the old post office has been renovated, designed and decorated with no expense spared. The property features a spacious outdoor courtyard fully enclosed on one side by a three-story glass wall of the house, on another side by a stone wall and on the far side by a dramatic rock face. With ample dining furniture and barbecue, it is the perfect spot for outdoor lounging and dining, protected from the wind and elements in cooler weather and from the hot sun in warmer months. If you'd prefer to take in the magnificent Luberon views, take a book or a drink up to the roof-top terrace where there is additional outdoor furniture. Inside, the house has been renovated with the highest quality building materials and features wood beams and exposed stone. Its sophisticated modern décor includes warm honey-toned furnishings, colorful Asian carpets and an array of original works of art, both from Provence and from the owner's wide travels. And it offers every comfort and convenience, including top-notch appliances, fine ceramic fixtures, satellite television and high-speed internet access. Entry from the street is into the open-plan living-dining room. This is a spacious room with floor-to-ceiling sliding glass windows opening to the outdoor courtyard. In the sitting area are a grouping of sofas and easy chairs near the modern fireplace. Behind is a lovely wood dining table and chairs for 12 people. Carpets and colorful art pieces accent this open and airy room. Doorways from the sitting area lead to the kitchen with breakfast table. It is fully equipped with the best of appliances including a professional stove and stainless refrigerator. A center island and ample counters provide plenty of preparation space for cooks of all experience. Quality copper and stainless cookware along with spices and ceramics are displayed on open shelves. From the kitchen, doors open to both the courtyard and to the street. There are a total of 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, three ensuite. All of the bedrooms take full advantage of marvelous country views. The bedrooms are spacious and have pastel walls, sea grass matt flooring, fine bedding, lovely linens and ample wardrobe space. The bathrooms feature pretty ceramic tilework and designer fixtures. Stairs off the kitchen lead to the second floor with two bedroom suites. One has twin beds convertible to king and a full bathroom with American-style tub with shower. The other has a queen bed and full bathroom with both separate shower and bathtub. The staircase continues to the third floor where there are three more bedrooms. One is a suite with queen bed and full bathroom with tub and shower attachment. The other two bedrooms have twin beds convertible to king and share a bathroom with shower and sink accessed on the hall and separate toilet facilities. Additional toilet facilities are located on the ground floor. On the second floor is a small library with game table and chairs. Also on the third floor is a den with comfortable seating, satellite television, DVD and CD players. The rooftop terrace is accessed from the third floor as well.
