Located in the countryside near the medieval bastide village of Belvès, this old stone house with red tile roof and yellow shutters is set in grounds enclosed by hedges and stone walls. There is a natural garden with lawn, tall trees, shrubs and plants as well as a pretty pool. Adjacent is a spacious tile-roofed terrace, the ideal setting for leisurely outdoor meals.
Inside, the house has been lovingly restored and features original fireplaces, exposed stone walls, wood beamed ceilings and terra cotta tile floors. Entry is into the French country kitchen with large stone fireplace, gray tile counters, oak cabinets, all appliances and conveniences. In the center is an inviting wood dining table for 8 people. A door from the kitchen leads to a more formal dining room with oval wood table. To the right, an archway opens to the living room with exposed stone walls and heavy wood beamed ceiling. Comfortable seating includes an upholstered sectional sofa and loveseat grouped around a dark wood coffee table in front of the fireplace. Doors from the living room and kitchen open to the terraces and grounds. A corridor from the living room leads to a bathroom with shower, separate toilet facilities and utility room. Also on the ground floor adjacent to the living room is a den, very comfortable for reading. Stairs from the dining room lead up to 3 bedrooms. On the second floor are two bedrooms with double beds and a large bathroom with separate toilet facilities. From the landing, a short flight of sturdy ladder-style stairs leads to the third bedroom with twin beds on a mezzanine. The bedrooms are attractively decorated with pretty curtains and bed covers. Opposite the main house near the pool is an old stone pigeonnier, also fully restored. It is compact and well designed. Downstairs is a kitchenette and bathroom with shower. A wooden spiral staircase leads to the bedroom with double bed. Stone walls and beamed ceilings give this room great atmosphere. Note: in mid season the main house may be rented at a reduced rate for up to 6 people. In this case, the pigeonnier remains closed. |
