Situated in the heart of the Périgord Noir, this graceful manorhouse has its origins in the 16th century and is set in grounds of ten hectares. The property is steeped in history and includes the vestiges of the old forge. The river Manaurie runs close to the forge and then wends its way to the woods, also part of the property. The grounds include graveled terraces with outdoor furniture set under shady trees as well as open lawn areas. The swimming pool and its tile terrace are set slightly away from the house next to an ancient chapel.
Inside, the house has been beautifully restored and features high ceilings, exposed stone work, old wood beams, hardwood and tile floors and several fireplaces. The decor includes a combination of contemporary furnishings accented with lovely antique pieces such as armoires, doors, chests and tables. To the left of the entrance hallway is a spacious living room with open fireplace and exposed stone walls. Two blue upholstered sofas are grouped around a coffee table by the fireplace. In the corner is another seating area with armchairs. The room is light and airy with French doors opening to the grounds and terraces. A doorway leads to a den with additional seating, television and piano. To the right of the entry is a formal dining room with a large rectangular wood table, an antique cupboard door and a massive stone fireplace. This leads to the kitchen with pretty tilework, white counters, pine cabinetry and all modern conveniences. French doors open from both the dining room and kitchen to the grounds and terraces. Also on this level is a bathroom with lovely tiling. Upstairs are 6 charming bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, four of which are ensuite. The other bathroom, with double sinks, American style tub with shower and toilet, is shared and accessed on the hall. The bedrooms are all decorated with pretty bedcovers, curtains, antique tables and chests. One with twin beds is most appropriate for children. The bathrooms are well appointed with quality fixtures and ceramics as well as colorful tilework. A historic property renovated in fine country tradition. The perfect setting from which to explore and enjoy the delights of Dordogne. *Note: the property is available during mid and low seasons at reduced rates for parties up to 8 people. |
