Dating from the 16th century, this former hunting lodge and its independent cottage are set in grounds of over 60 acres. Surrounding the main house and cottage is a magnificent park with tall trees, spacious lawns and an array of flowering plants and shrubs. Between the main house and the cottage is a pretty swimming pool with stone terrace. And dotting the park are covered and open terraces and plenty of outdoor lounging and dining furniture to take full advantage of it.
Built in typical Perigourdine style, both the old hunting lodge and cottage have been well renovated retaining classic architectural features such as massive wood beamed ceilings, warm honey-colored exposed stone walls and stone floors. The traditional décor includes comfortable furnishings accented by many antique pieces and Asian carpets. Stone steps from the park lead to the front of the main house, built on three levels. On this level are the living room, dining room and kitchen. In the living room are two upholstered sofas grouped in front of a monumental stone fireplace. Occasional tables, lamps, antique pieces and an Asian carpet complete this inviting room with French doors opening to the terrace. To the left is a beautiful dining room with a large wood farm table and chairs. This is also the music room with its lovely black lacquer upright piano, which music enthusiasts are welcome to enjoy. A doorway from the dining room leads to the homey country kitchen with antique-yellow cabinets, granite counters, brick-colored tile floor and breakfast table in the center. In the main house, there are a total of 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The master suite with doors to the park is on the ground level, accessed by the main entry door and by a staircase from the kitchen. This spacious suite includes a bedroom with queen bed and adjacent, a full marble-tiled bathroom with American-style tub with shower, sink and toilet facilities. Also on this level are additional toilet facilities and a kitchenette with cooktop, dishwasher and oven, handy for outdoor meals. On the top floor are two more bedrooms, one with a double bed and another dormitory-style room with four single beds most appropriate for children. Serving these two bedrooms is a large bathroom with tub-shower, double sinks and separate toilet facilities. The cottage is located on the other side of the swimming pool. It also features lovely woodwork, exposed stone walls and clay tile floors. On the ground floor are an open-plan living-dining room with old fireplace and doors to the grounds. Also on this level are the kitchen, bathroom and separate toilet facilities. Upstairs under wood rafters are 2 bedrooms, one with a double bed and another with twins. A home with tremendous atmosphere, ideal for large groups to relax at home or set off to enjoy the many sights of the region. *Note: in high season, the main house and cottage are rented as an ensemble. In mid and low seasons, the main house can be rented alone for parties of no more than 8 people at a reduced rate. |
